Last Day of School
The Last Day of official school instruction will be Friday May 15th. This is the last day teachers will assign work. May 18-20 teachers will host the last class zoom meeting and students may submit all work that needs to be turned in. May 21-28 we will have opportunities to take virtual field trips. We know your children are disappointed to miss their annual spring field trips and our big field day. Our teachers really look forward to those events too. We hope you and your child will find some of the virtual trips fun and interesting.
Pick Up/Drop Off Day May 21 & May 22
May 21 and May 22 we will be collecting your child’s school books, library books, loaned technology and anything else that you need to return to the school. Your child’s teacher has packed up each student’s personal belongings from their desk for pick up. There will be a table of lost-and-found items set outside. Please watch for a letter next week from Mrs. Reinhart with detailed information regarding pick up times and the process.
5th Grade Send-Off
Our 5th graders have been a part of the lives of so many of our younger students over the years. We are so proud of our students and honor them and their parents. They have served as wonderful role models and we know that many of our younger students will want an opportunity to say goodbye. We are disappointed that we cannot have our traditional Mass and send-off activities for our 5th graders. Details are being finalizing for a new send-off ceremony and will be announced early next week.
New Security Enhancements
On your next visit to the school, you will notice that several building updates have taken place since our school closed. These updates have been made possible by funding from The Defiance Area Foundation and a security grant from the State of Ohio.
- The most notable is that the lobby is currently under renovation. A glass wall and double doors have been installed to create a secure vestibule for building guests. A business window will be installed soon for parents and guests to conduct their business with the office.
- All classrooms doors have been reinforced to help prevent a hostile intruder from entering in the the very unlikely event the school goes into lock-down.
- A new layer of security has been added to exterior points of entry throughout the building.
We are Hiring a Music Instructor
Part time, one or two days a week. We love music and we are looking for someone who loves teaching it to PreK – 5th grade students. The music instructor plans two musical performances a year (Christmas and Spring). A four year degree and a background in music is required. For an application and information, contact Mrs. Rose Reinhart at principal@defianceholycross.org or 41-784-2021. HCCS is an equal opportunity employer.
BGSU Summer Camp
The BGSU Academic Enrichment Camps offer students in grades 3 through 8 two weeks of engaging and interactive learning from the comfort of their own home during Summer 2020. Students can select to enrich their learning in mathematics, reading, or science. These courses are taught and designed by trained teachers who are experts in the content of mathematics, reading, and science.
