BREAKING NEWS – FREE LUNCHES FOR ALL STUDENTS

The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending flexibilities to allow free meals to be available to all children throughout the entire 2020-2021 school year. This unprecedented move is part of USDA’s commitment to ensuring all children across America have access to nutritious food as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The flexibilities extended will allow all of our school to leverage the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) to provide no cost meals to all children through June 30, 2021.

There is no application process, all students who participate in HCCS’ school lunch program will receive their lunch at no cost through the end of the school year. Additionally, all families that have taken advantage of the HCCS school lunch program and have paid for school lunches up to this point will receive a FULL REIMBURSEMENT of lunches purchased this school year.

School administration is completing the required paper work and we will let you know when the program officially goes into effect. We currently have between 30-40 students who get school lunches regularly. Mrs. Waldron needs your help to prepare for the anticipated increase in lunches. Look for a lunch survey in the next M&M. Please complete this survey and return ASAP. For more information on the USDA’s program, visit https://www.usda.gov/media/press-releases/2020/10/09/trump-administration-extends-free-meals-kids-entire-school-year.
