Return to School/Pandemic Plan for 2020-21

July 24, 2020

Our policies have been developed using the guidelines of Governor Mike DeWine, the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Department of Health and in collaboration with the Defiance County Health Department, the Diocese of Toledo, and the HCCS School Advisory Council. Because the COVID-19 virus is ever changing, these policies may change at any time.

Following is an overview of some of the most important points of our Pandemic Plan. For the comprehensive plan, please download the entire document available in the documents section below.

Overview of the Plan:

  • Holy Cross Catholic School will teach in-person to all classes Monday through Friday.
  • A new procedure will be instituted for drop off and pick up of students. See The Plan for detailed information.
  • If it becomes necessary for HCCS to close, a prepared online learning plan will be activated. See the Pandemic Plan for more information.
  • Students will observe social distancing requirements in all learning spaces and when moving throughout the school building.
  • If a student or staff member becomes ill with COVID-19 symptoms, is diagnosed with COVID-19 or is exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID-19 there is a step by step plan outlined in a Flowchart for People with COVID -19 Symptoms. The flowchart can be downloaded from the documents section below.
  • Students in grades K-5 will wear face masks in common spaces outside of the classroom and when social distancing is not possible. In the event the County of Defiance reaches an “Orange Level” students in grades K-5 may be required to wear masks in all indoor spaces.
  • Students are expected to have 3 masks available to them. Teachers and school administration can assist with obtaining masks. For more information see Mask Resources below.
